Ryan Burns (he/him) is an instructional coach focused on writing across the curriculum at Winman Middle School in Warwick, Rhode Island. He previously spent nearly two decades as a teacher of English Language Arts and the Teacher Preparation CTE pathway at Smithfield High School in Smithfield, Rhode Island. As an adjunct professor, Burns teaches in the English Department at Rhode Island College, including "First-Year Writing and Studies in Literature and Identity." With a doctorate in literacy, culture and language education from Indiana University, his research explores social justice and critical literacy in English education, LGBTQ+ adolescent literature and the stories and experiences of queer educators in the classroom. His writing has appeared in multiple academic publications, including “Acts of Resistance: Subversive Teaching in the English Language Arts Classroom” and “Queer Adolescent Literature as a Complement to the English Language Arts Curriculum.”
