Authess, a Boston-based developer of an assessment platform used by students, educators and employers, has been acquired by Elsevier, the academic and research publishing platform best known for its subscription journals. Terms of the deal were not disclosed in the press release.
Founded in 2015, Authess offers a platform for companies and educational institutions to create problem-based assessments that it says can better gauge skills and competencies than multiple-choice tests. Its clients have included Jigsaw Academy, an online education platform for data science, the New England College of Business and Southern New Hampshire University.
The company has raised more than $2 million in venture capital, and was a graduate from LearnLaunch, the Boston-based education technology accelerator program.
Under Elsevier, “we are looking forward to a new and exciting future to help develop more competent, job-ready nurses,” Authess CEO and co-founder Paul Crockett said in a prepared statement. In a tweet, the company suggested that its tool will be used to support nursing and health sciences.
